Xaver Bogenrieder, landlord of the Unterbräu, is laid to rest. At the funeral feast, the pretty widow Wally is courted by the pharmacist, the post office secretary and the professor. Now the brewmaster, who has long been a silent admirer of the widow, sees his moment. To show Wally who really loves her, he hatches a spooky plan together with the shepherd Sixtus. The deceased bridegroom must go around as a ghost, then the false suitors will stay away. Unfortunately, the gravedigger has the same idea, without the one knowing about the other.
