Bookseller Vivien Barner is close to her goal: an anonymous organ donor has agreed to donate her life-saving kidney. Just a few minutes before the operation, Vivien learns that he has backed out. Devastated, but with an irrepressible will to live, she sets off in search of the anonymous donor. Vivien tracks down the successful author Thomas Shield. Thanks to a misunderstanding, she is able to scrutinize him in disguise. And before she knows it, she is well on the way to falling in love with the charismatic writer.
